EcoEnergy Retrofit Program

Retrofit Initiatives

The Government of Canada renewed the popular ecoENERGY Retrofit program. From June 6, 2011 until March 31, 2012, homeowners are eligible to receive grants of up to $5,000 to make their homes more energy efficient. Find out more about the insulation rebates here.

Polyurethane "Soya" Spray Foam Insulation

Insulation Just Turned Greener

Polarfoam PF-7300-0 SOYA Spray foam insulation is a closed cell medium density spray foam made from renewable vegetable oils, soy bean oil, and recycled plastics - it is unique in ecological nature. Demilec, a Quebec based company, patented a unique manufacturing process. Using recycled plastic bottles, soya oil, and vegetable oil they produce a Spray Polyurethane Foam (SPF) insulation that offers a high performing and durable insulation to reduce energy costs and consumption.

Polarfoam SOYA has zero impact on the ozone layer, a challenge raised by the Montreal Protocol Agreement as the insulation industry has an obligation to eliminate all Ozone Depleting Substances (ZERO ODS) from their products by 2010. Thermo Seal Insulation Systems is proud to have been using a zero ODS spray foam since 2007, three years before other contractors commited to this green initiative.

Polarfoam SOYA is a medium denisty (two pounds per cubic foot) closed cell SPF. Spray foam insulation will not shrink, sag, settle, or biodegrade. By acting as an air and vapour barrier, medium density spray foam insulation provides an all-in-one complete wall system. In addition, polyurethane foam insulation products have a higher R-value per inch than batt insulation.

When you invest in spray foam insulation, you will reap long term rewards in saved energy dollars, increased control of indoor air quality, improved comfort, health and safety for the life of your home. Your heating and cooling equipment will work more efficiently, use less energy (gas, electricity, oil, etc.) and will maintain a more uniform and consistent temperature. This also increases energy efficiency by allowing for downsizing of heating and cooling systems.

Benefits of Polarfoam SOYA

  • High R value (R33 in 2 x 6 wall)
  • Ideal for new or retrofit construction
  • Adheres directly to substrate
  • Seamless permanent coverage
  • CUFCA certified, professional installers
  • Increases structural integrity of framing
  • Uses renewable resources
  • Superior air barrier material
  • Meets vapour barrier requirements
  • CCMC tested & approved
  • Zero Ozone Depleting Substances (Zero ODS)
  • Exceeds building code requirements
  • GreenGuard Certification & L.E.E.D. credits
  • Eliminates heat loss & saves money

R Value

Polarfoam SOYA SPF is the highest rated insulating spray foam available. With an initial R value per inch of 7.2 and an aged R value of 6.6, we can boast the highest Long Term Thermal Resistance (LTTR) of R6 per inch. The LTTR is a requirement for R value classification in Canada and is conducted by independent laboratories approved by the Canadian Construction Materials Centre (CCMC). Currently there is only one manufacturer (Demilec) that is able to produce a spray foam with an LTTR of R6 per inch.
